Chester
Township contains one of the largest infrastructures in Geauga County.
It currently has 69.05 miles of asphalt road, 0.38 miles of concrete road,
and 4.45 miles of chip seal road and 4.57 miles of gravel road. As well as
611 road
culverts, 8000 feet of guardrail, 2.35 miles of storm sewer, and
156 miles of shoulder and right-of-way area.
The twelve miles of County road contained in Chester Township are
maintained by the Geauga County Highway Department. These roads include
Wilson Mills, Mulberry, and Sperry (south of Mayfield). The ten miles of
State road contained in the township is maintained by the Ohio Department
of Transportation. These roads include Mayfield Road, (US 322) & Chillicothe
Road, (SR 306).
The Chester Township Road Department has ten employees which includes the
Road Superintendent. These employees possess an average of 15 years
experience in the road maintenance field. They are responsible for the
maintenance needs of all township roads and their corresponding
right-of-ways. Some of the services performed include asphalt patching,
crack sealing, roadside ditch cleaning, chip sealing, gravel road grading,
dust control application, installation and maintenance of all signage,
roadside mowing, snowplowing, roadside shoulder repair, tree & brush
trimming, road culvert maintenance and replacement, and guardrail repair
and replacement.
The department is also responsible for the maintenance of all township
owned grounds and buildings which include the interment of the deceased at
the Chester Cemetery.
To aid in completing all the required maintenance the road department
possesses and maintains an equipment inventory worth nearly $1,300,000.00

June 1st, to through mid September are 6:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday
through Thursday.
