Dear Chester Residents,
Recently, I
have written about several programs that our department has implemented or is
about to reinstate into our services for the community. There is however
another area that we have specifically identified as one that deserves the
attention of our department. I am referring to the growing number of senior
citizens within Chester Township. After a recent meeting that I had with Sally
Bell, Director of the Geauga County Department on Aging, I learned that according
to a recent study, Chester Township has the highest population of seniors in
the county and the number is expected to almost double by the year 2015.
On behalf of our department I am proud to announce two programs, that I feel will have an immediate and beneficial impact to not only our seniors, but our department as well. The first will allow for the regular interaction with the Police Department and those that attend the West Geauga Senior Center. I will meet to discuss various topics involving law enforcement or just simply to allow for open discussion about their concerns or safety issues. The program is called "Healthy Living" and the first discussion is scheduled on Wednesday / November 8th, 2006. The second phase of this program will involve every member of our agency and those seniors of Chester Township that meet the criteria and register to participate in it. Those seniors that have no immediate family to regularly check on their welfare and have special needs or those that deem themselves to be at risk, may register to participate in this program. Those applicants that meet the criteria will receive a weekly personal visit from an on-duty officer, just to make sure that they are okay or to see if they have any concerns or issues that we can assist with. In the event of busy schedules a telephone call will be placed to conduct the same, however the emphasis is on a personalized visit. This program will be referred to as K.I.T. "Keep In Touch".
If you are a senior resident in Chester Township and you
could benefit from this program, I encourage you to complete that attached form
and return it to the Chester Township Police Department. I along with all of
our law enforcement personnel understand and appreciate the value of our senior
citizens and we look forward to hearing from you soon.
Sincerely,
Captain Mark A. Purchase
Acting Chief of Police
Chester Township Police
Department's
"Keep in Touch Program"
